When Reality Isn’t What You Thought & How To Cope

I came home from work, went to bed, and woke up to a new world. A world I didn’t recognize or understand. I was in shock. Looking for answers and wanting to wake up from this new reality.

Anxiety can be so overwhelming to the brain that it alters a person’s sense of reality. Causing panic attacks and you can make decisions that you would normally not make. That’s where I was. I derealized my reality and started reaching out for help.

Most people navigate reality without giving it a second thought. We move through our lives with a sense that we know what is going on. In reality, it’s all subjective to change.

I talked to several therapist, friends and family. Hoping to make sense of what I now know as reality. It helped a little.

In time, I have finally learned to accept my reality for what it is. It’s not pretty, but it could be worse.

Now, I’m learning to cope with this reality. Day by day, I got stronger. Life is better.

I focus on my nursing career, being a mom, and a grandma. My focus is outward on making things better for others, so in a sense, life is better for everyone.

By helping others, I find its great therapy.

I need to find something, that I can do for myself, but I really enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I can’t honestly think of anything, that would bring me more joy.

I’m now working on getting my credit better, and hoping to eventually purchase a home of my own, a home of my dreams. In a sense, this has also helped me, find new life.
