Something To Think About

What is your relationship with your Family? What is your parenting like? Your relationships with others?

Have you ever thought about who will attend your funeral or Memorial, when you die?

I was told the story of my Great-Grandpa, Guy Quackenbush, who lived in Lamar Missouri.  He died in the 1970s.  So many people loved Guy, that they say that the graveyard and outside the fence of the graveyard was packed, and there wasn’t a dry eye.

Well the saddest part was my Grandfather, Vern Quackenbush, didn’t seem to be effected by the death of his own father.  He never traveled to Missouri to attend the funeral or make contact with the family that he did have there.

I think about that relationship.  Was it a healthy relationship?  Not really.

I’m sure there was a lot of issues over time that drove a wedge between the two.  First, I’m sure the death of my grandfather’s brother, made it hard.  They both drove a company truck for the same company.  The day that his brother died, my grandfather’s brother gave my grandpa a better route, so he could make a better pay check.  Unfortunately, my grandfather’s brother died while driving the other route.  Second, my grandfather lost his own son, my uncle in an unfortunate accident working on a car.

Life is hard.  As they say, “Life is 10% of what happens to you, but 90% of how you perceive it”.

I’m a Hospice RN Case Manager, so I can feel down at times as well, but I look at the good I do for others.  I help those in their journey, as they go to the next phase of existence.  I, myself, believe in Heaven.  Whatever your belief, we all have a journey.   I feel I make a difference, providing the comfort, education, and supplies as needed.

Life really is what you make of it.

The only thing we have in life is our relationships with our children, family, friends, and even complete strangers you may meet on the street.

So the next interaction you have with someone, stop and listen.  See what they have to say, and be there for them.  We are in this journey together.
